Artificial turf over a draining base — green all year, no watering — Chandler, Maricopa County.
Most of these calls start with a water bill. A front lawn from the eighties drinks all summer, nobody walks on it, and it costs the same whether anyone looks at it or not — so people want it gone without the yard turning into a gravel parking lot. Synthetic grass is how that gets solved. It stays green in July and in February, it takes no water at all, and it does not need cutting. We take the old surface out, grade and compact a base that drains instead of holding water, lay the turf with the blade direction running the same way across the whole area so it does not read as patched together, seam it, secure the edges, and brush in infill so it stands up instead of lying flat and shiny. Dogs, kids and shade are all fine on it — the shaded strip along a north wall where real grass has never once filled in is often the first place people put it.
The Chandler version of this job is usually a front yard, and a front yard is seen from the street at an angle, in full sun, all day. That is where cheap installs show: a visible seam running up the middle, a shine where the blades were never brushed up, and edges lifting away from the walk. We run the seams where the eye is least likely to land, and finish against the concrete and the borders so the line reads as intentional rather than as something cut to fit at the end of the day.
Water, rock, grass and shade — the whole yard, by one crew.
