Driveways, patios and walkways in paver stone, set on a compacted base — Chandler, Maricopa County.
South of Ocotillo, out through Fulton Ranch and Sun Groves, the houses went up in the 2000s and they all got the same front-of-house package: a plain grey concrete driveway, a concrete walk to the door, and a back slab the size the builder felt like pouring. It works, and it looks like everybody else's. Pavers are what people do about that. We lay paver driveways and driveway extensions, front walks, back patios and the paths that connect them, in the pattern and colour you pick rather than the one that came with the house. The visible part is the stone. The part that decides how it ages is underneath — the ground excavated to depth, the base compacted in lifts, the bedding layer screeded flat, and edge restraint around the perimeter so the field has something to push against instead of creeping outward every time a truck turns on it.
On these newer Chandler lots the driveway is the biggest paved surface the street ever sees, so the joint where new pavers meet the existing garage slab and the city sidewalk is the detail that gives a job away. We set those transitions flush and cut the field to meet them cleanly, rather than leaving a lip at the garage door that you feel every time you pull in. If you are extending an existing drive rather than replacing it, say so when you call — matching into concrete is a different layout than starting from bare ground.
Water, rock, grass and shade — the whole yard, by one crew.
