Pavers are the first thing on Nefi's card, and a paver job is really two jobs: the one you look at and the one nobody ever sees. The visible half is the pattern — a running bond up a driveway, a soldier course around a patio, a border in a second colour so the field has an edge instead of a fade. The half underneath it is what decides whether the thing is still flat in five years. The ground gets cut out, the base gets brought in and compacted in lifts, the bedding layer gets screeded flat, and the field goes down against an edge restraint that will still be holding it long after the sand has settled. Then it gets compacted again with the pavers in place, and the joints get filled.

Sometimes, and sometimes the slab has to come out first. It comes down to how the existing concrete sits, where the water goes and how much height the doors and the garage will allow. We look at it before saying which way it should go.
