Driveways, slabs, walkways and decorative concrete, formed and finished — Tempe, Maricopa County.
Most concrete work in Tempe is replacement work, and replacement work is decided by access before it is decided by anything else. These are narrow streets with cars on both sides, small front setbacks, side gates that were sized for a wheelbarrow, and in a lot of neighbourhoods a mature tree hanging over exactly where a truck needs to stand. So the first thing we work out is how the material gets to where it is going, because that shapes the whole job. We pour driveways and driveway approaches, back patios and slab extensions, walkways, equipment and shed pads, curbing, and decorative finishes — stamped, broom-finished or coloured. Under all of it the subgrade gets cut to a consistent depth, soft ground dug out and replaced with compacted material, and control joints cut where the slab will want to move anyway.
Something to raise on an older Tempe lot is what the tree roots have been doing. A driveway or a front walk that has lifted at one edge next to a big tree has usually lifted for a reason that is still there and still growing. Pouring a new slab over the same roots without dealing with them is how a homeowner ends up paying twice, so we look at what is under the old surface before agreeing on a scope.
